As well as an exceptional destination for safaris and those looking for unspoilt wilderness, it is malaria-free and there is also a wide menu of interesting places to visit and things to do.

History of The Waterberg

They were followed by the Sothos and Tswanas, whose descendants are still the predominant tribes in the area today. The majority of the staff team at Jembisa are Sotho.

In the 1850s the early trekkers, many of whom had come all the way up from the Cape in their wagons started to settle in the area. These were hardy people ekeing out an existence in a wild area. It was them who gave the area the name of the Waterberg due to it’s ability to hold water in it’s sponge –like rocks and enjoy streams of bountiful water all year long.

Today there are descendants of all the historical settlers in the area plus the addition of more recent settlers from far and wide who have been drawn to the area due to it’s beauty and wilderness. This creates a pot pourri of different peoples and cultures resulting in a richly diversified and interesting community
